When a storm results in power outages, NU crews will first respond to emergency situations. This includes restoring service to hospitals, emergency response agencies, and residential customers operating critical-care medical equipment. We also work with local authorities to respond to damaged equipment such as downed electric lines that may pose a danger to the public. Before energy can flow to streets and homes, we first assess any damage and make these areas safe for our workers. Then repairs are made to damaged infrastructure such as natural gas mains and electric power lines that deliver energy to our customers. NU crews seek to repair damage that will restore service to the greatest number of customers. While the majority of customers may have service restored in a relatively short time, it may take longer to restore service lost as a result of smaller outages. In the event of recurring storm activity, service may be restored and lost more than once due to new damage to our infrastructure. |
