Our Environmental Focus Environmental Management System NU's Environmental Management System is a key operational component of the company. It is set of processes and practices that allow NU to identify and address environmental impacts resulting from its services and operations. This helps the company to anticipate and meet growing environmental performance expectations, mitigate risks, introduce new efficiencies, and enhance its compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements. This process-driven protocol begins with the identification of the environmental impacts of the activities conducted at NU facilities. These may include air emissions, water discharges, and the company's use of natural resources. Once identified, greater influence is sought over these impacts through the use of operational controls and target goals. ISO 14001 Certification NU is committed to maintaining the highest environmental standards for our operations throughout the region. That is why we have been an active participant in the ISO 14001 certification process, the worldwide standard for environmental excellence. ISO stands for the International Organization for Standardization, located in Geneva, Switzerland. ISO 14001 is a voluntary standard that provides a framework for controlling and improving a company's environmental performance. ISO 14001 certification is achieved by retaining a third-party auditor to review and monitor the company’s environmental management systems (EMS). CL&P, WMECo, Yankee Gas and several corporate departments have all achieved ISO 14001 certification. PSNH continues to administer a strong ISO 14001 conformant EMS. As a part of our ongoing commitment to ISO 14001 conformance, internal and external surveillance audits are conducted annually, in addition to a comprehensive external recertification audit every third year. |
