Environmental Contributions

Northeast Utilities is proud to invest in an improved environment for our communities.

In 2005, the company provided $347,000 in environmentally-related donations.

  • NU sponsored a School Natural Area Program (SNAP) with the Connecticut Audubon Society, to provide training and support for teachers and schools wishing to make use of nature areas on or near school property.

  • The company funded the Southwick (MA) Conservation Commission’s publication of a stream guide that identified and documented a large watershed known as Great Brook. The guide serves as an educational tool for residents and emphasizes the values for protecting and understanding this valuable ecological resource.

  • NU supported the Berkshire Conservation Agent Program’s development of a training workshop for county conservation commission members. The workshop focused on delineating high water boundaries along rivers that identify the protective jurisdiction for local conservation commissions.

  • NU provided a $25,000 grant to the New Hampshire Forest Association for the protection of New Hampshire’s forests.

  • Each year NU employees participate in the United Way "Day of Caring," coordinating community activities including neighborhood beautification and other environmental projects.
