Conservation and Load Management

NU’s Conservation and Load Management programs help our residential, commercial and municipal customers conserve energy and make investments that all to use energy more efficiently.

NU’s electric subsidiaries offer energy audits, rebates for efficient lighting and industrial conservation loans. They also offer assistance through energy-conscious construction programs and a public school education program.

NU companies also administer the Energy Star program in their states to encourage customers to save money through investments in energy efficient home appliances, lighting, motors, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, as well as industrial process improvements.

Our Conservation and Load Management programs have received numerous honors:

  • The Environmental Protection Agency honored Connecticut Light and Power’s Conservation and Load Management group with a 2006 Energy Star for Homes award for helping nearly 1,000 homeowners certify their homes with the Energy Star designation for a projected a lifetime energy savings of over 34 million kilowatt-hours.

  • CL&P is a member of Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships, which in 2005 was honored with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Sustained Excellence Award. That year, rebates distributed by CL&P to its customers for the purchase of energy-efficient products resulted in a projected lifetime energy savings of over 350 million kilowatt-hours.

  • Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECo) has won the Energy Star Excellence in Energy Efficiency and Environmental Education Award for the last five years in a row. Most recently, WMECo was honored for its air conditioner turn-in events and energy fairs that resulted in the removal of inefficient air conditioners from customer homes and businesses.
